Rodenberg assumes role of OHS softball skipper
Orrick has a new varsity softball coach again.
Aaron Rodenberg succeeds Chase Sims, who led the Bearcats in 2024. Rodenberg, the program’s seventh head coach since Orrick began offering spring softball in 2017, took the position roughly a month before the season began, he estimated.
“I was already kind of planning on helping Coach Sims,” Rodenberg said March 19. “And then, when he had to leave, they just kind of asked me if I’d like to take it from there. Always love the opportunity to coach.”
Senior Izzy Wheeler and junior Addison Chapman are among the girls Rodenberg is coaching, with assistance from Jonathan Kinder. Wheeler, who plans to pitch and play first base, is thrilled with Orrick’s new skipper.
“We loved our coach last year, but he’ll be the first to tell you that he didn’t know as much about softball – he was more of a baseball guy and they are different,” she said. “And Coach Rodenberg has just always coached his daughter Avis in softball, and he just knows so much…
