Robinson is remembered; Compton remembers late mother at ceremony

A lineup change was needed for this year’s Richmond Spartan Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Emcee Brandon Quick told the crowd at the June 7 event that George Robinson was scheduled to be inducted last. Because Robinson’s family needed to leave, however, he would be inducted first instead, Quick said. Members of Robinson’s family then took to the stage in the Richmond High School commons area to posthumously honor the 1973 graduate, who had died in April. With a framed, poster-sized photo of Robinson as a young man on display, his son Josh briefly spoke. Josh Robinson thanked the community and his father’s teammates from Richmond’s 1971 Class 3A state championship football team. He also commented on George Robinson’s abilities. “Our father was very talented,” Josh Robinson said. “On and off the field.” After concluding his speech, Josh Robinson announced that a scholarship fund had been established in his father’s honor.
