Richmond’s softball season ends in district semis

ST. JOSEPH – The Spartans were a better varsity softball team at season’s end than they had been at its beginning. Richmond coach Staci Maddux, and outfielders Sydney Appleberry and Trinidy Fisk shared the above opinion after the Spartans’ 9-3 season-ending loss to Chillicothe Oct. 13 at the Bill McKinney Softball Complex at Heritage Park in the Class 3 District 8 semifinals. “I think the beginning was a little rough, but through the season, we bonded a lot,” said Fisk, a senior. Pausing for a moment to let the horn blasts from a freight train passing nearby grow fainter, Fisk continued. “We got a lot of momentum, I think, starting … (in) the middle of the season, then we just started rolling,” she said. “And at the end of the season, I think we finished really strong.” That momentum might have helped Richmond take the opening lead against Chillicothe and then attempt to stage a comeback.
