Richmond volleyballers fall on Senior Night
Oct. 9 was an emotional night for Genevieve Didier and Sydnee Burnett.
The reason: Didier and Burnett are high school seniors, and Oct. 9 was Senior Night for Richmond’s varsity volleyball program. The two volleyball players were honored, along with senior teammates Addison Burk, Rosalee Grubbs, AJ Jones, Grace Leahy and Deliliah True, when the Spartans hosted Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC)-East Division rival Lexington.
“It’s just a very exciting thing; and all of us seniors, we’re just happy to play and very excited,” Didier said afterward. “We only get one Senior Night.”
Assistant coach Katelyn Jeffers, for one, would’ve been happier if the outcome on Senior Night had been different. Richmond dropped the best-of-five match 3-1 – a reversal of the rivals’ meeting in September at Lexington.
“It sucks to lose on Senior Night, but we’ll push back and persevere and come back again,” Jeffers said.
