‘NICE TO GET BACK’
On Monday, Richmond boys coach Brent Behler and his Spartans finally got to play their first varsity basketball game of 2025.
Sparked by a 21-2 first-quarter run, the Spartans cruised past Penney of Hamilton 55-32 in the Barker Center to open the Lawson Invitational. Gabe Johnson and Dryden Hendrix led Richmond to victory with 10 points each.
Jacob Miller and Jared Cooley were Penney’s leading scorers with 17 and 10 points, respectively. Miller, a junior, scored 15 of his points during the second half.
“It’s been almost a month since our last game, so it felt nice to get back on the court,” Behler stated Tuesday via email. “We were rusty offensively, but our defense did a nice job showing up and limiting them in the first half. The second half, we looked lethargic, but were able to get up big and get everyone some playing time.”
