Richmond QB receives 1st Burnine scholarship
Of the handful of scholarships Donivin Williams received May 11 during Richmond High School’s senior awards ceremony at the Farris Theatre, one had special meaning: the Hank Burnine Memorial Football Scholarship.
Burnine, a Richmond graduate, played football for the University of Missouri in Columbia and then turned pro, with stints with the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles. Following his death in 2020, his family received enough donations “in lieu of flowers” to offer a memorial scholarship for three years, stated his daughter, Kandi Daulton, May 9 via email.
Williams, who graduated Sunday from Richmond, said he learned about the scholarship from visiting the school’s counseling center.
