Richmond golfers get sense of district competition with invitational
Last week, Richmond boys golf coach Brandon Rittmiller and his Spartans got a sneak preview of this week’s Class 3 District 4 Tournament competition.
On May 2, the Spartans hosted the Richmond Invitational at Shirkey Golf Course. The field included district opponents Maryville and St. Michael the Archangel. Maryville won the invitational team title and St. Michael the Archangel was runner-up.
In addition to seeing district competitors, the invitational revealed to the Spartans what they “need to push for to make it to state,” Rittmiller said.
“It was a good competition of teams out here today,” he said.
The Spartans finished 11th in their invitational/district preview, slogging through the rain to shoot a combined 369. Sophomore Isaac Kaylor paced the team, finishing his 18-hole, par-71 round with a 91 (+20). Overall, he finished in a fiveway tie for 40th.
Kaylor called it his round “really bad.” “The worst round I’ve played in probably two years,” he said.
