Richmond girls aim to play aggressive, clean

Controlled aggressiveness on defense is a focal point for third-year Richmond varsity girls basketball coach Kaylee Vantrump and her Spartans. “We’re working on being able to put a lot more ball pressure on without fouling,” Vantrump said following a preseason jamboree with Lawson and Polo at Lawson. Roster size prompted that approach, Vantrump acknowledged. Missouri State High School Activities Association information lists nine girls. According to Vantrump, one of those girls is expected to enter the lineup in December – junior guard Genevieve Didier, who was sidelined last season with an injury. Given the combination of a lower turnout and Vantrump’s defensive philosophy, Richmond fans can probably expect the girls to play significant minutes each game.
