RHS varsity volleyballers reach district semis

Of Sydnee Burnett’s four seasons playing prep volleyball at Richmond, this one was her favorite. Burnett, a senior, made that assessment after the Spartans’ 3-0 season-ending loss to Oak Grove Oct. 23 at Excelsior Springs in the Class 3 District 15 Tournament. Team bonding prompted her to put it at the top of her list. “It was a fun year,” Burnett said. “We all were pretty close, so it’s sad to leave.” Burnett was among a group of seniors who played their last match for the Spartans (5-16). Others included Genevieve Didier, who returned this season after being sidelined by an injury. “Coming back from not playing for two years, it was amazing,” Didier said. “I couldn’t have asked for a better team. And I loved playing with all the girls. Our chemistry was amazing by the end of the season, and I wish I could just do it again for more years.” The enjoyable campaign for Burnett and Didier included a 3-0 districtopening win over KIPP KC Legacy, a Kansas City-based charter school.
