RHS girls golfers secure spot at state
For the first time in years, Richmond has qualified for state as a team in girls golf.
The Spartans will play in the Class 2 state tournament, scheduled for Oct. 20-21 at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield. The last time they are believed to have qualified for state as a team was 2015, according to Richmond girls coach Courtney Sisson.
Richmond qualified by placing second at Class 2 District 4 competition Monday at Green Hills Golf Course in Chillicothe. Per Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) regulations, the top two teams in each district and top 13 individuals not on those teams advanced, with exceptions allowed in the event of ties for the final qualifying spot.
“The girls did exactly what they needed to do yesterday,” Sisson stated Tuesday via email. “We had a plan going into districts on how we were going to execute taking a team to state. The girls were committed and dedicated to doing their part to make this happen.”
