Richmond junior Genevieve Didier almost made a clutch game-tying free throw Monday night – less than a week after making some game-winning free throws.
With 2.5 seconds left in the fourth quarter of Richmond’s meeting with Cameron and the Spartans trailing 57-55, Didier was fouled and awarded two foul shots. The first one hit off the back iron. The second was good.
Richmond then attempted to foul or perhaps get a steal and try to score a gamewinning bucket. But the Dragons ran out the clock, handing the Spartans a 57-56 defeat to open the varsity girls basketball portion of the Richmond Winter Classic at Richmond High School.
“The first one, … I could just feel the pressure,” Didier said. “And as soon as I let it … (go), I could tell it wasn’t going in. And it stung a lot. … I know I can’t blame myself completely, but it would’ve been awesome if I could’ve made it.”
That vibe was similar to what Didier had experienced Jan. 24, when she made two foul shots during the closing…
