RHS boys, girls wrap regular-season play

Richmond can begin focusing on the postseason in varsity girls basketball. The Spartans finished regular-season play Tuesday night with a 46-35 home loss to Odessa. The Richmond girls (3-21) will begin postseason play at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 against Excelsior Springs at St. Pius X of Kansas City in the Class 4 District 15 Tournament. At press time, the Richmond boys were set to conclude their regular season Thursday night against Odessa. The Spartans were 15-9 entering the Missouri River Valley Conference interdivisional road clash and coming off a 60-51 loss to St. Joseph Lafayette. The Tuesday night road defeat snapped an eight-game winning streak. Like the girls, the Richmond boys will play in the Class 4 District 15 Tournament. Unlike the girls, their games will be at Oak Grove. Seeded second, they’ll face the winner between Oak Grove and Northeast of Kansas City in the semis at 7 p.m. Feb. 29.
