Returning golfers pack Richmond’s roster

RICHMOND – The Spartans have an experienced group this varsity boys golf season. Returners will fill Richmond’s five varsity spots, coach Murray Dennis said March 16 at Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond. They include senior Timmy Hamilton, who has signed to play men’s golf at William Jewell College in Liberty. Like other high school athletes, Hamilton was denied a season in 2020 because the COVID-19 pandemic wiped out spring sports. Playing in junior tournaments, however, helped him hone his game. Those tournaments included the fall Uhy Kansas City Junior boys qualifier at Shirkey. Hamilton’s game has “come a long way” since that September tournament, he said. “I put in a lot of work this winter just on my overall full swing,” Hamilton said. “I haven’t done a lot of (work on my) short game because, obviously, weather hasn’t let us.” Other returners include senior Jacob Knutter and junior Aiden Bowman.
