NATIONAL TITLE HOPES Two Richmond High School graduates have the chance to win a national college football title – one as coach, the other as a player.
Dan Lanning, a 2004 graduate, has the chance to coach the University of Oregon to the title. His Ducks are seeded No. 1 in the College Football Playoff (CFP), a postseason tournament for NCAA Division I FBS programs.
The Ducks (13-0) have drawn a firstround bye. They’ll play the winner between The Ohio State University and the University of Tennessee Jan. 1 in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.
Keyshaun Elliott, a 2022 graduate, has the chance to win a title as a linebacker at Arizona State University. Like Oregon, Arizona State (11-2) has a first-round bye. The Sun Devils, who are seeded fourth, will play the winner between the University of Texas and Clemson (S.C.) University Jan. 1 in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta.
