CHAMPIONS! Richmond girls golf coach Courtney Sisson called Monday “a great day to be a Spartan.” The reason? Richmond won the Missouri River Valley Conference Tournament that day. Shooting a 397, the Spartans finished 11 strokes ahead of runner-up Warrensburg to claim the title at the Blue Springs Country Club. First-year high schooler Lyla Best and sophomore Karoline Dooley led the girls to victory by each shooting a 95 for the 18-hole competition. The two also were individual co-champions. “I was proud of Lyla and Karoline for being able to turn their back-nine scores around,” Sisson stated Wednesday via email. “They both started off rough, but remained focused and never gave up.” Best and Dooley were among five Spartans who placed in the top 10. Senior Kylie Holland placed sixth with a 100.
