WINNING STREAK
Richmond’s varsity basketball team carried over some momentum from last week’s Mustang Basketball Classic into this week.
After opening with a 78-62 loss to Van Buren (Ark.) Dec. 15, the Spartans won their next two tournament games. They cruised past Nevada 56-38 Dec. 16, then edged host school McDonald County 52-46 Dec. 17.
The Spartans followed those victories by cruising past Holden 69-47 Monday night. Trailing 16-13 after one quarter, Richmond took control of the Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC) East Division road meeting with a 2411 second quarter. The Spartans then outscored the Eagles 32-20 the second half.
“We struggled early with energy,” Richmond coach Kevin Jermain stated Tuesday via email. “Our guys did a good job of making a run right before halftime and creating some distance on the scoreboard. We picked up the pace the second half and did some nice things.”
