Quick’s quick hands help Spartans ice semifinal
The last time Nolan Quick touched the football in Richmond’s 24-19 nail-biting win over Chillicothe in 11-man action Nov. 7 at Spartan Stadium, he made sure to hold onto it.
And teammate Ryan Sharp made sure he held on to Quick.
With 41.4 seconds left in the final quarter of the Class 3 District 8 Tournament semifinal and trailing 24-19, Chillicothe attempted an onside kick, hoping to recover it and stage a game-winning drive. The ball bounced to Quick, who attempted a kickoff return with Sharp clutching him. Eventually, the senior was tackled, allowing the Spartans (8-2) to go into their Victory formation to run out the clock, secure the five-point win and advance to play Maryville (8-2) for the district title Friday at Maryville.
“It felt great,” Quick said. “I saw it coming to me and I knew – I knew the bounce was about to happen right to my chest. So I grabbed it.”
