Pugh claims eighth in 100 at state

JEFFERSON CITY – On May 27, Richmond’s Kaylee Pugh experienced what it’s like to receive a medal at a state high school track and field meet. That morning, Pugh finished eighth in the finals of the girls 100-meter dash in Class 3 state competition at Jefferson City High School. The top eight finishers in each event of the two-day meet received a medal. Pugh, who finished her junior year this spring at Richmond, ran the race in 12.8 seconds to secure her spot. “It went alright,” she commented minutes afterward. “It definitely wasn’t my best run.” When asked why it wasn’t her best, Pugh replied: “I don’t know. I just kind of felt tight. But I did my best.” Pugh secured her spot among the finalists by placing fourth in her heat and eighth overall in the preliminaries on May 26. The top eight finishers in each event made the finals.
