Come on inside, kids and sports fans! We’re playing indoors for a while! For many of the programs the Richmond News covers, winter sports are underway. Hardin-Central and Orrick each started their varsity boys and girls basketball seasons recently. The Hardin-Central girls cruised past Polo 50-25 on the road and the boys fell to Polo 68-33. Orrick also opened with a varsity girls-boys doubleheader, hosting Northwestern of Mendon. The Orrick girls won 29-20. The boys lost 33-27. Both Hardin-Central and Orrick had games scheduled this week. Orrick was slated for a Tuesday girls-boys doubleheader with visiting Polo. Hardin-Central had two varsity girls-boys doubleheaders planned – Monday at Breckenridge and Tuesday at home against Chilhowee. The Richmond boys were to open Monday night against visiting Oak Grove, looking to avenge their season-ending loss to the Panthers in February in the Class 4 District 15 Tournament.
