Orrick shifts personnel, reworks offense after home loss

Orrick 8-man football fans might see some players in different positions than usual Friday night, when the Bearcats host Northwest of Hughesville for homecoming. They also might see a different offense than usual. Varsity coach Kirk Thacker, who has traditionally preferred a run-oriented attack, was working with the Bearcats on a pass-oriented, no-huddle spread offense Monday afternoon on the Orrick practice field. The offense is one Thacker has “had for a while,” but he has never used it, he said. “I like it,” Thacker commented. “I think they’re going to like it.” Like many 11- and 8-man teams, the Bearcats will sport playbook wristbands to help them remember formations and other details, Thacker said. “They’ve never used them before,” he said. If the Bearcats want or need to, however, they can use their old offense, Thacker said.
