NHC falls to W-N in gridiron rematch
When Wellington-Napoleon and Norborne Hardin-Central (NHC) met in the District 4 Tournament, the Tigers did what NHC varsity 8-man football coach Andrew Watson and his Aggies had expected them to do.
Like the regular-season meeting between the schools, the Tigers were led offensively by junior quarterback Jonny Hampton, according to Watson. They also showed the same defense the Aggies had seen in person and on video.
But there was a difference between the first and second meetings: the outcome.
The Aggies won the first meeting 5248 at Wellington-Napoleon. The Tigers won the district meeting 39-18 Nov. 8 at Hardin-Central, ending NHC’s season.
“Overall, … they played a really good football game. … A lot of props to Wellington. … They were very well prepared, they’re a well-coached team and they came out and were superphysical from the first snap,” Watson said Monday by phone.
A difference in energy levels was one reason Wellington-Napoleon won the rematch, Watson acknowledged.
