In-the-moment H-C girls win home opener
The day before Hardin-Central’s meeting with Tri-County in varsity girls basketball, coach Brent Behler had some advice for his Bulldogs: He told them to stay out of their own heads and stay in the moment.
The Bulldogs took that advice to heart during their 41-27 Dec. 1 home-opening victory, according to post player Hannah Finley.
“It was definitely a game that we needed to stay out of our heads, … and I think that … second half, we did that,” said Finley, a first-year high schooler. “And we got back into it after Coach (Behler) talked to us.”
Behler gave the girls that advice as a confidence-builder, he said.
“Kids struggle to believe in themselves these days, and we’ve just been preaching, ‘Hey, you gotta believe in yourself and move on when you make a mistake,’” Behler said. “A lot of our kids, they let that linger.”
