Reese McCartney gave himself a treat Halloween night. With 3 minutes, 47 seconds left in the fourth quarter of Orrick’s varsity 8-man football playoff meeting with Northland Christian, McCartney caught a two-point conversion pass from Xavior Gaskins – his first-ever two-point pass reception, he said. His catch provided the final points of the Bearcats’ 32-14 Oct. 31 home victory and helped secure a District 4 Tournament semifinal showdown between Orrick and undefeated Norborne Hardin-Central (NHC) Friday at Hardin-Central. “I was pumped,” said McCartney, a junior. “It’s, like, the best feeling ever.” McCartney had requested Orrick coach Matt O’Dell call the play, the two recalled. “I didn’t think the huddle would believe Reese when he came in and told that play because he’s been asking for it all year,” O’Dell cracked.
