Lopez sibs help Richmond to fifth-place in Cameron
CAMERON – Jaedyn Lopez’s bat popped in Richmond’s final game of the Cameron Softball Tournament.
The senior went 2-for-4 with six RBIs to power the Spartans to an 11-5 win Aug. 28 over Lawson at the Park Valley Baseball/Softball Complex. Those RBIs came on a first-inning, bases-loaded triple and a fourth-inning, bases-loaded double.
“She’d been just missing the ball (this tournament). … She was getting under it or on top of it and I knew her timing was almost there,” Richmond varsity coach Staci Maddux said. “And this game, it just kind of clicked with the pitchers that they were throwing.”
Another contributor was Lopez’s younger sister, Kynlee. The freshman right fielder snagged three fly balls for putouts and assisted with a putout. With one out and runners on first and second in the bottom of the second, she made a shoe-top catch to prevent a base hit, then threw to first for a double play.
