Let the Chiefs stay in KC — or settle in Kansas
I’ve talked myself out of a dumb idea. And you should be thankful.
If you follow Kansas City’s NFL franchise, then you know all the drama surrounding the Chefs’ (sorry, Chiefs’) current home stadium – and where the team will play its home games in a few years. If you don’t, it comes down to this: Lawmakers in Missouri are trying to persuade the Chiefs to stay in the Show-Me State, preferably at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, where they’ve played their home games for 53 years. Kansas lawmakers are trying to persuade them to leave Arrowhead for the Kansas side of the metro area.
With that in mind, I had considered doing something ludicrous: writing a column arguing that the Chiefs should make their next home a) in eastern Clay County, near Excelsior Springs or b) somewhere in Ray County.
Miraculously, I came up with a few decent arguments. One was that there are NFL teams that are named after the metro area where they’re based, yet play in suburbs or exurbs. Perhaps…
