In watching his Bearcats during their 3331 Jan. 5 home loss to Norborne, Orrick varsity girls basketball coach Jonathan Kinder saw them take what he called “a major step in the right direction.” “I feel like our hustle was better,” Kinder said. “Our … help side defense was better. … Our offense looked more together.” Kinder was particularly impressed with those improvements, given that the Bearcats recently lost a key scorer – Anela Fletcher, who transferred from Orrick to an out-of-state school. “When you lose a player at semester because of a move, you never know what’s going to happen with your team,” he said. What happened with Kinder’s team against Norborne was that Vicki Graves took over as its go-to scorer.
