RICHMOND – The Spartans again validated varsity softball coach Staci Maddux’s faith in them to score runs Monday. Trailing 1-0, Richmond staged a three-run, fifth-inning rally and held on to defeat Cameron 3-1 at Southview Park. The victory extended Richmond’s winning streak to five games. “I know that, at any time, we have the hitters that we can get runners on and we’ve got people to move them around,” Maddux said. The Dragons tacked up their lone run in the second. Seniors Lexi Bokarae and Abrey Oldham were each hit by a pitch in the fifth to set up the game-winning hit – a one-out double to center field by sophomore Kaylee Pugh. “(Their outfielder) kept turning around, so I was like …, ‘She’s not going to catch it,’” Pugh said. “So I was just going.” Bokarae scored on the hit. Pugh was credited with reaching third base on the play on a throwing error. In heading for third, she almost overtook Oldham. “I didn’t actually mean to go that far, but she (was) safe,” Pugh said. …
