Kaylor punches ticket for state
Isaac Kaylor is taking a road trip as he wraps his sophomore year at Richmond High School.
Kaylor is set to compete in the Class 3 state boys golf tournament, slated for May 19-20 at Twin Hill Golf Course in Joplin.
“I think it’s amazing for Isaac,” firstyear Richmond boys coach Brandon Rittmiller said.
Kaylor punched his ticket for state at the Class 3 District 4 Tournament, held May 7 at Shirkey Golf Course. The top two teams and top 14 individuals not on those teams advanced. The district would’ve sent 13 to Joplin, but a tie for the final spot permitted sending a 14th golfer, per Missouri State High School Activities Association regulations.
Kaylor, the lone Richmond qualifier, shot an 83 (+12) for his 18-hole, par-72 district round. Opening on the 10th hole, he started finding his rhythm on the 15th, he said.
“I hit a drive right down the middle and almost drove the green,” Kaylor recalled. “ I felt really good.”
