Johnson, Quick come through in clutch for Richmond

LEXINGTON – When Gabe Johnson went to the free throw line for the last time in Richmond’s Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC)-East Division meeting with Lexington, time and the scoreboard were on his side. Johnson was fouled with .2 second left in the Feb. 14 varsity boys basketball clash and Richmond leading 58-56. Awarded two shots, the senior swished the first one through the net. Johnson’s second shot bounded off the iron. Time expired as the ball entered play, giving the Spartans a 59-56 road victory. “I’m glad it was .2 second. This year, my free throws have been off. I’ve been practicing my free throws lately,” he said. “So I was pretty confident about my shot. I didn’t really think anything about the last two free throws.” Richmond coach Brent Behler knew the clock favored the Spartans. “Shouldn’t be able to get a shot off with .2 left,” Behler said.
