Hamilton, Comstock test their mettle in AJGA qualifier at Shirkey

RICHMOND – Ray Countians Timmy Hamilton and Dylan Comstock got to test themselves against some of the country’s top junior golfers, and a few international junior golfers, last weekend. And in a pandemic-created twist of fate, they did so on their home course. Hamilton and Comstock played in the Uhy Kansas City Junior boys qualifying tournament Sept. 25 at Shirkey Golf Course. The tournament was part of a slate of tournaments this season offered by the American Junior Golf Association. Hamilton, a Richmond High School senior, shot an 80 (+9) for the 18-hole, par-71 competition, tying St. Louis’ Curt Hastie for 17th. He had an “up-and-down” round with a start that was “kind of rocky,” he said. “I started to … kind of get back into it; and then, … I missed a birdie putt on 15, and that was kind of the end of it for me. … It’s going to be a learning experience, that’s for sure,” Hamilton said. “Just stinks.
