H-C’s defending relay champs have high hopes for ’25

Kaden McGinnis, Kalel Bowman and Brody Fifer have the chance to be repeat state champions in track and field this season. Last season, McGinnis, Bowman and Fifer ran on Hardin-Central’s winning boys 400- and 800-meter relay teams at Class 1 state competition. They also set school records in both events. “I have high hopes,” said McGinnis, who also qualified individually in the 100. “We got some big shoes to fill.” Those shoes were filled by Denver Douglas and William Curtis, both of whom graduated. Douglas ran in the 400 relay, Curtis in the 800 relay. The key to filling those shoes and meeting McGinnis’ expectations are to “just keep doing our thing,” he said. That means keeping up the team’s hard work, McGinnis said. It also means honing one skill, McGinnis, Bowman and Fifer agreed. “It’ll all come down to handoffs, I think,” said Fifer, a sophomore. “We got to perfect the handoffs if we want to go far.” “Handoffs are very important,” said McGinnis, a junior. “You see a lot…
