H-C boys end season with loss to Santa Fe in districts

HARDIN – The Bulldogs’ Feb. 20 Class 1 District 13 Tournament meeting with visiting Santa Fe was not decided in the fourth quarter, when Santa Fe staged an 11-3 run and handed them a 55-43 season-ending loss, Hardin-Central coach Brent Behler and junior guard Mason Freece agreed. It was decided early in the third quarter. “We had one shot in 4 minutes – and that killed us,” Freece said. He paced the Bulldogs with 23 points and was the lone Bulldog in double figures. “We need to get up as many shots as we can because we’re not a super-high-percentage team, so it’s not like all the shots are going to go in, but … we have to take as many of them as we can to get a good enough amount of points to win.” Before that scoring drought, Hardin-Central played Santa Fe to a 10-10 first quarter, as the Chiefs opened with a 10-0 run that the Bulldogs answered. “They did a good job in the first quarter of fighting back (from being) down 10-0,” Behler said. “You can easily just let that extend up…
