H-C alum becomes gridiron Hall of Famer

ST. JOSEPH – For his last act as a Missouri 8-Man Coaches Association board member, Kirk Thacker honored one of his former players. Thacker, Orrick’s 8-man varsity coach and a 1987 Richmond High School graduate, presented Richmond resident Dan Carpenter with a commemorative plaque when Carpenter was inducted into the Missouri 8-Man Football Hall of Fame June 25. The induction took place during halftime of the 14th Annual Missouri 8-Man All-Star Game, held June 25 at Missouri Western State University. Having coached Carpenter in 8-man football at Hardin-Central, the induction was “a well-deserved award – and it’s been a long time coming,” Thacker said. “I’m extremely happy that I could get that accomplished,” he said. It was “a good honor,” Carpenter said. “It’s an honor that humbles you a little bit in a team sport, but nonetheless, a very good honor to receive,” he said.
