Gray, Pugh complete ’25 HOF class

One of the 2025 Richmond Spartan Athletic Hall of Fame inductees was ahead of his time, according to former Richmond coach Scott Summers. In introducing Darren Gray during the June 7 ceremony in the Richmond High School commons area, Summers described Gray as the school’s first bona fide three-point shooter. Gray, a 1993 graduate, began playing high school boys basketball less than five years after the introduction of the three-point shot in Missouri prep basketball, Summers explained. Per the program notes, Gray left Richmond as the school record-holder for most career treys made and most three-pointers made in a season. Had he played during the late 1990s and/or early 2000s, when three-point shot attempts became more common, his numbers in those categories would’ve been higher, Summers suggested. “He had an old-school coach that always wanted to get the ball inside or be patient – work the ball in,” Summers said. “So he didn’t get a lot of opportunities.” Even so, Summers said…
