GETTING SET FOR 2021
RICHMOND – Based on what new Richmond varsity volleyball coach Crystal Turner has seen in open gym sessions and during team camp this week, this year’s sophomores will help form the nucleus for building a program.
“They (were) … one of the first groups that got (to play) seventh-grade volleyball,” Turner said Monday. “So … (they) have a little bit of an advantage.”
Laney Moyer is among sophomores impressed by Turner.
“She’s really helpful and informative,” Moyer said.
Turner looks to help Moyer and other Spartans hone fundamentals this week in the Richmond High School gym – their last offseason training sessions. The team’s goals “are to just become a better bump, set, spiking volleyball team – just to be aggressive on the offensive end,” she said.
“Our main goal is just to be able to be defensive enough to be offensive,” Turner said.
For the Spartans to improve as a spiking team, improving their bumping and setting – i.e., their passing – is key, Turner said.
