Friends, teams unite for offseason hoops training

Last week, Hardin-Central coach Tommy Burton and Richmond coach Kaylee Vantrump continued their friendship and helped their respective programs prepare for the 2025-26 high school varsity girls basketball season. They did so by holding joint summer practices. Activities included skills drills and some scrimmaging between Richmond and Hardin-Central. Burton oversaw the first session, held June 17. “I wanted to run an ordinary practice, with minimal changes,” he stated Monday via email. “We focused on the basic fundamentals: dribbling, passing and shooting.” Vantrump led the second session, held June 19. Both sessions took place at Hardin-Central. Hardin-Central and Richmond each benefited significantly from the sessions, Vantrump and Burton agreed. “Pairing with Hardin raised the competitiveness within my Richmond girls,” Vantrump stated Monday via email. “We worked on a lot of driving moves and I saw a few of the girls apply them during the live scrimmage.” For Hardin-Central,…
