‘Focused’ Richmond boys romp to courtwarming win

Richmond varsity boys basketball coach Kevin Jermain watched his Spartans pull off a balancing act of attitudes on Feb. 3, when they pounded visiting Holden 78-19 for a courtwarming and Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC) East Division win. On the one hand, the Spartans “just really came out focused,” Jermain said. Senior Jack Gogue noticed that focus, too. “We usually have a problem with … getting a big lead in the first half and then coming out the second half kind of lackadaisical,” Gogue said. “But we didn’t do it this time and then end result showed.” Gogue paced the focused Spartans with 22 points and was among three players in double figures. Gabe Johnson poured in 21 points. Senior Eli Steele, who was crowned courtwarming king between the varsity girls and boys games, added 17.
