Fletcher, Floyd get wins for ’Cats at Carrollton
CARROLLTON – Orrick senior Anela Fletcher was, admittedly, “a little surprised” at her finish in the girls long jump at the Bruce Finlayson Invitational.
Fletcher’s best leap in the event at the April 25 varsity track and field competition at Carrollton was 4.7 meters. She didn’t think that was long enough to win.
It was. “I thought other people were having a better day,” Fletcher said. “I was kind of having an off day to start.”
Fletcher nearly won another event – the triple jump. She placed second, leaping 11.13. The event champion, Richmond senior Kaylee King, jumped 11.14 (see related story on page 11).
“Anela had some big jumps in the triple jump,” Orrick coach Seth Smith said. “She just keeps, really, getting personal records at each meet.”
Fletcher credited her runner-up performance, in part, to King.
