Facing Behler ‘really fun,’ ‘bittersweet’ for ’Dawgs
Hardin-Central coach August Hoeper had what he called “a really fun” experience when his Bulldogs faced Braymer last week.
The reason the Dec. 21 home varsity boys basketball game was fun for Hoeper, despite falling 56-47, was because he got to face Braymer coach Brent Behler – his former boss and high school coach. It served as a reminder of the mentor Behler has been to him.
“Knowing him since, like, 2016, 2017, and just learning from him as an assistant, … it’s been very beneficial learning from him and then playing against him,” Hoeper said minutes after the Carroll-Livingston Activities Association meeting.
Behler enjoyed the experience, too. “(It was) our first game against each other,” he said. “Hopefully, we have a few more.”
The experience was different, however, for Hardin-Central seniors Denver Douglas and Kameron Pugh. Both played under Behler, who coached the Hardin-Central boys for three seasons before leaving this past spring for Braymer. Hoeper, who had been Behler…
