Dolphins increase their pod, keep winning with Fields
Aschedule change helped boost the Richmondbased Dolphin Swim Team’s roster this summer, according to second-year coach Trish Fields.
The Dolphins held evening practices in 2023, when they had 35 swimmers, Fields said Aug. 1. This season, they held morning practices and drew 40 simmers, she said.
“They swam just as well with that morning, colder water practice,” Fields said.
The expanded pod of Dolphins dominated most of their meets, like previous Dolphins had done. For example, they won a June 8 meet at Carrollton by 318 points and a June 26 meet at Southview Pool in Richmond by 444.5 points, Fields stated via email.
Roster size was key to the Dolphins cruising to victories, according to Fields. The Dolphins took 33 swimmers to Carrollton, she stated. By contrast, 17 swimmers represented Carrollton and 11 represented Marshall, Fields stated.
“They just don’t have the numbers (we do),” she said.
