An injury shortened Sydney Appleberry’s high school softball career, but it won’t stop her from playing beyond high school. On March 15, the Richmond senior formally signed her letter of intent in her high school gym to study and play softball at Moberly Area Community College (MACC). Appleberry, who suffered an ACL and meniscus tear last summer while playing basketball, said the Greyhounds downplayed the injury when they were recruiting her. “He (coach Matt Bauer) talked about how one of the girls on the team had torn her ACL as well,” she said. “And so, it just wasn’t that big of a concern. … He was willing to work with me and (do) what I needed.” As she looks ahead to her junior college softball career, Appleberry is “kind of working back to” full strength, she said. She’s healthy enough that she plans to run track again this spring and then play softball again this summer for Commotion, a Carrollton-based, traveling competitive team.
