Consistent Spartans finish sixth at home tourney

Richmond coach Murray Dennis couldn’t fault his Spartans for lack of consistency when they played in the Richmond Invitational April 28 at Shirkey Golf Course. Of the four Spartans whose individual scores counted toward the team score and the team’s five total varsity golfers, three had even splits for the front nine and the back nine. The consistent individual scores helped the Spartans shoot a combined 353 and place sixth among 21 schools. Bishop LeBlond, a St. Josephbased private school, took the team title with a 304. “I think they’re starting to get it figured out,” Dennis said of his team’s consistency. “And this is a good time of the year to get it figured out.” Jack Gogue, Richmond’s top finisher, shot back-to-back 43s. With his 86 (+15), the senior placed in a four-way tie for 20th individually. He attributed his consistency to his driver. Thomas Murphy, also a senior, shot back-to-back 44s.
