Cold shooting hurts RHS girls in title tilt
Literally speaking, there wasn’t a lid covering the basket whenever Richmond shot from the field during its 4637 loss in the Richmond Winter Classic girls title game with Lawson.
Metaphorically speaking, there was, Richmond coach Kaylee Vantrump, and teammates Adilyn Swope and Candiace Claypole agreed.
“I think our main thing … (was), … shots weren’t falling – the shots that we practice and take every day. … I thought we attacked the rim really well and we were finding open looks,” Vantrump said minutes after the Feb. 1 defeat at Richmond High School. “But … nothing was going in.”
Well, the ball went in for one player, according to Vantrump. That was Swope, who paced Richmond with 19 points and was the lone Spartan in double figures. Swope also was one of two Spartans to receive alltournament honors, the other being Genevieve Didier.
