Class 2 Spartans wrest tourney title from Class 4 Bruins
Richmond more than held its own against larger schools Jan. 10 in the boys portion of the Marshall Wrestling Invitational.
Led by title runs from Brady Hyder and Landon Garrett, the Spartans took the team title with 175.5 points – 29.5 points more than runner-up Rock Bridge.
Richmond is a Class 2 program. Rock Bridge, a Columbia-based school, is a Class 4 program.
“Competing against bigger schools and winning is always good,” Spartans coach Cody Hogan stated Monday via email. “We don’t have to worry about district seeds and just worry about competing, and having fun doing so.”
Hyder, a senior, went 3-0 to win the 126-pound division. He won two of his three matches by first-round pin, including his title match with Macon County’s Rhett Pollard.
Garrett went 4-0 to take the 285 title. All of the sophomore’s victories were by firstperiod pin.
“Brady and Landon did what they were expected to do – and in a dominating fashion,” Hogan stated.
