CFP run ends for Lanning

An “unbelievably wellcoached team” ended Richmond graduate Dan Lanning’s quest of coaching the University of Oregon to a College Football Playoff (CFP) title this season. The team was Indiana University, led by coach Curt Cignetti. Spurred by a 21-0 second quarter, the Hoosiers crushed Oregon 56-22 Jan. 9 in Atlanta in the Peach Bowl, a CFP semifinal game. “They started off hot and they didn’t really slow down,” Lanning told reporters. “And they were able to run it. They were able to have success passing it. Their defense played outstanding.” Officially, however, Oregon had 16 more yards of total offense than Indiana did. Led by quarterback Dante Moore, the Ducks tallied 285 passing yards. Oregon also had 93 rushing yards, including 86 yards from Dierre Hill Jr. The Hoosiers tallied 362 yards of total offense.
