’Cats, other area programs hone hoops skills in Lawson league
LAWSON – Orrick has completed a phase of offseason boys basketball training.
On Monday, the Bearcats finished their summer-league schedule at Lawson with back-to-back losses to Penney of Hamilton’s and Lawson’s varsity squads. They were among roughly 40 teams participating in the four-week league, which finished play Wednesday, a league schedule states. Other participating area teams listed were the Excelsior Springs’ varsity and junior varsity programs, Hardin-Central, and Richmond’s varsity and junior varsity squads.
“(We did) a lot of good things and (there are) a lot of good things we (have) got to work on, which is kind of what we were expecting,” varsity coach Matt Brownsberger said.
The Bearcats had their “ups and downs” in the league, junior guard Zander Stevinson said. Stevinson felt the loss of 1,000-point scorers Dylan Comstock and Ethan Wilson to graduation during the summer schedule.
“We need to step up. … It’s definitely going to take some getting used to and a lot…
