’Cats change coaches
Orrick is making some coaching changes.
Seth Smith, athletic director and assistant principal, confirmed Wednesday via email that Chase Sims would lead the varsity 8-man football program. Sims succeeds Kirk Thacker, who stated this week via text message he had resigned as football and varsity track and field coach.
In addition, Thacker stated his plans to retire soon as a teacher. Thacker teaches junior high and high school social studies at Orrick, the school district website states.
A 1987 Richmond High School graduate, Thacker was into his fourth season and 23-13 overall at Orrick when he announced his resignation. Orrick finished 8-3 in 2021, his first season; and 11-1 in his second, with the Bearcats’ only loss coming in their district title game with Bishop LeBlond of St. Joseph.
Orrick finished 3-8 last season. The Bearcats were 1-1 when Thacker made his announcement. They opened 2024 with a shutout win over Southwest of Livingston County/Hale/ Tina-Avalon and then lost by…
