Behler returns to Ray to lead netters
Some area sports fans might recognize Richmond’s new varsity tennis coach more from his work on the basketball court than the tennis court.
Former Hardin-Central boys and girls varsity basketball coach Brent Behler succeeds Brett Terry in leading the Richmond netters. Behler joins the program after a year at Braymer, where he led the boys basketball team to a second-place finish in the Class 1 state tournament.
“The move from Braymer was more of a family move,” Behler said Aug. 14 at Maurice Roberts Park, where the Spartans play their home matches. “Just tired of driving. My kids are at the age where you want to spend more time with your family, and I want to be here to support the student-athletes and the kids of the town that I live in and my kids … (are growing) up in. So I thought it was just a great fit.”
Behler joins the program after years of teaching tennis as physical education teacher and has some recreational playing experience, he said.
