Baseball in June?
KANSAS CITY – Ray and Clay countians might see the Kansas City Royals in action again before Independence Day. And facing a few new division rivals.
In a story that was published Tuesday and updated Wednesday by USA Today, Bob Nightengale reported that Major League Baseball, the Royals’ governing body, was “cautiously optimistic” of a late-June/early-July Opening Day. The coronavirus pandemic forced MLB to postpone the start of the 2020 season, originally scheduled for late March.
Nightengale also reported a minimum 100-game season was under consideration by MLB, with its 30 teams organized into three divisions, rather than two leagues with three divisions each. It has been proposed the Royals play in the Central Division, along with Missouri’s other major-league club, the St. Louis Cardinals.
Under normal circumstances, the Royals are in the American League Central Division and the Cardinals are in the National League Central. They face off in a handful of interleague games each…
