Athletes on the mend inspire respect — and sympathy
SHAWN RONEY
I sympathize with Sydney Appleberry, Genevieve Didier and Patrick Mahomes II – and thank them for their inspiration.
Didier and Appleberry each play three high school sports for Richmond. Both play basketball and run track. Didier’s third sport is volleyball. Appleberry’s is softball.
As the Richmond News reported, both are sidelined for a while with injuries (Didier’s story appears on page 12). Both suffered ACL tears while playing summer basketball. Appleberry also suffered a meniscus tear. As she explained the meniscus is “on the sides of your knees.”
“It’s like two little C-cups that hold your knee (together),” she said.
I’m guessing most of you know who Mahomes is. If you don’t, he’s only the best pro football quarterback of his era. He also is an ever-present commercial spokesperson, appearing in streaming/ TV ads for companies such as State Farm, Subway, etc., etc., etc. Like retired basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal, he “never met a sponsor he wouldn’t push,”…
